All of the winners of Woot Shirt’s 81st Derby have now been announced. Woot decided to go a different direction for Valentine’s Day and focus on shirts about heartbreak. This crop of winner’s were especially good, so I thought I’d mention them. Unfortunately, since those shirts have already been posted, they are only available at Shirts on Sale. Check them out below.
Anthropomorphic food is a common theme among shirt designers. “We Were Tomatoes,” walmazan’s most recent printed work at Threadless, is a great example. The design depicts a ketchup bottle chasing tomatoes with clearly bad intentions. It retains walmazan’s illustrative style, and like his previous design, “The Tragic Story Of Romeouse & Julirat,” you feel for the characters while laughing at their situation.
The iSteamPhone is a new design from artist Kevin Tong. Kevin took the original Exploded Phone, an iPhone that was expanded and sketched on a shirt, and added a little spice of da Vinci and a heavy dose of steampunk. What came out was a fantastic illustration, which happens to look much cooler than the real iPhone.
Today we’ve got a shirt from laFraise. It’s titled ““T” Is For…,” and as you may have already guessed it revolves around the letter “T.” There are 14 items on the shirt that start with that letter. I bet you can’t spot them all!
“The Tragic Story Of Romeouse & Julirat,” is a shirt that’s just finished being scored at Threadless. It’s by an extremely talented designer named Wenceslao Almazan, otherwise known as walmazan. He’s got a very unique illustrative style that I think is great. Out of his many designs I think this is one of his best.
“Adventurer” is such a clever shirt that I had to mention it. I truly laughed out loud.
Recently NerdyShirts ran a week long clearance sale. This was in preparation for their new site which launched today. The site remains basically the same as it was before with a few notable additions. You can now browse items by subject matter, upload a photo of yourself wearing one of their shirts, and get e-mail updates when new products are posted. It’s also much easier to see what products are on sale.
Every once and awhile you stumble upon an idea that is truly unique. One of those ideas is Status King. Status King is a Facebook application that allows you to put the Facebook status of your choice on a shirt. While this idea is surely not protected from imitators, it’s still a clever application to hook into a social network.
“Paste” is a new shirt design that is in the running at Threadless. The designer is bortwein, and I find the graphic to be very clever.
Loiter has recently announced the winner of their Loitery. The winner was “Fact” a shirt featuring Dwight Schrute from The Office. Dwight sometimes declares ridiculous facts at random during the show. The shirt’s design is done in the style of the recent “Hope” poster series featuring Barack Obama, which was done by artist Shepard Fairey.
